Gov Buni allays civil servants’ fear of retirement

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has said that retirement from public service marks the beginning of a new chapter in life, rather than a dead end, as many often believe.

Buni stated this while receiving the newly appointed Head of Civil Service, Tonga Betara Bularafa, on a thank-you visit to the Government House on Thursday.

According to him, retirement should be seen as an opportunity for growth, exploration, and continued contribution, rather than an endpoint.

Buni urged young civil servants who accompanied the new Head of Service on the visit to emulate his values of discipline, commitment, and dedication to duty to succeed in their careers.

The governor directed the Head of Service to organise training programmes for civil servants approaching retirement, enabling them to acquire new skills and explore alternative career paths after leaving public service.

The initiative, he said, aims to ensure a smooth transition into retirement while providing opportunities for personal growth and financial stability.

“By acquiring these new skills, civil servants will be better prepared to navigate the challenges and opportunities of retirement and pursue fulfilling careers beyond public service,” Buni said.
