NBC raises alarm over 262 broadcast violations in Kano

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has reported a total of 262 violations in Kano State between January and February 2025, with 196 cases linked to political programmes and 66 involving personal attacks.

Kano State Coordinator of the NBC, Malam Adamu Salihu, disclosed these figures during a meeting with media executives, convened by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

According to a statement issued by Usman Bello, Director of Internal Affairs at the Ministry of Information, Salihu expressed deep concern over the rising number of violations, stressing the need for immediate measures to encourage responsible broadcasting in the state.

In his remarks, Commissioner Waiya called on media organizations and political figures to uphold respect and tolerance when airing political discussions on radio.

He highlighted the importance of preserving Kano’s long-standing cultural values, which emphasize decorum, respect for elders, and adherence to traditional norms.

Waiya also voiced concern over how radio political programmes have increasingly become platforms for defamation, character assassination, and disrespect for authority.

He warned that such trends are alarming to well-meaning individuals and could erode the state’s deeply rooted heritage of civility and mutual respect.
