Newcastle confirm spot in Europe next season after beating Liverpool in Carabao Cup final

Newcastle have confirmed their spot in Europe next season after winning the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

The Magpies defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley to clinch their first trophy in 70 years.

Dan Burn opened the scoring for Eddie Howe’s men at the end of the first half.

After seeing a goal ruled out for offside, Alexander Isak fired in a second for Newcastle.

Liverpool were able to pull one back in stoppage time through Federico Chiesa, but it was a mere consolation.

This victory means Newcastle have confirmed a place in at least the UEFA Conference League.

They currently sit in sixth place with 47 points in the Premier League table and could yet grab a Champions League spot.
