EPL: Ian Wright blames two Chelsea players after Arsenal’s 1-0 win

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has blamed two Chelsea players after the Gunners’ 1-0 Premier League win on Sunday at the Emirates.

Mikel Merino’s first-half header gave Mikel Arteta’s side all three points against Enzo Maresca’s men.

Merino flicked captain Martin Ødegaard’s header over Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.

However, Wright felt Sánchez and Christopher Nkunku, who was positioned at the near post for Ødegaard’s corner, were both to blame for Merino’s goal.

“It’s a great header, but you look at the attention to detail from Nkunku,” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“The manager has put him there for that specific reason. That has cost them the game. Merino’s movement is great, but he can only head it because Nkunku doesn’t do his job.”

On Sánchez, Wright added: “He should not be there. He needs to be back on his line. It was strange.

“He’s got space where he is, but he’s got involved with an Arsenal player. He probably would have caught it if he was in the right position.

“It’s such poor goalkeeping at this level. It’s not good enough.”
