Police arrest kidnapping gang, rescue victim in Nasarawa State

Nasarawa State police operatives have arrested two suspects involved in the abduction of an eight-year-old boy, Abdulrahman Sani, and successfully rescued the victim unharmed.

According to SP Ramhan Nansel, the command’s spokesperson, the arrest followed a report lodged on March 17, 2025, by Alhaji Sani Bello, a resident of Tudun Wada, Mararaba, at Mararaba A Division, Karu Local Government Area.

Nansel stated that Bello reported that his son was kidnapped on March 15 at about 8:00pm, and the abductors later demanded a ₦700,000 ransom for his release.

“Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, detectives launched an immediate investigation.

“Based on intelligence, officers tracked and arrested the suspects in Keffi, Nasarawa State,” the statement read.

The suspects are: Surajo Yusuf, 22, a native of Katsina State and resident of Angwan Tanko, Keffi, and Peter Samuel, 23, from Nasarawa Town.

“During interrogation, Yusuf confessed to orchestrating the kidnapping and later enlisting Samuel to keep the child under the false pretense that he was his nephew.” Nansel stated further.

He added that the Police recovered several incriminating items from the suspects, including Nigerian Correctional Service and Nigeria Immigration Service uniforms, a knife, a Nigeria Correctional Service identification card, a National Identity card, three ATM cards bearing different names.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed commended the officers for their swift response and assured residents of the force’s commitment to ensuring public safety.

Mohammed urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

The suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations, according to the statement.
