All nuclear power plants belong to Ukraine – Zelensky insists despite Trump’s talk of US ownership

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has insisted that all nuclear power plants, including Zaporizhzhia belong to the people of Ukraine.

This is coming after United States President Donald Trump suggested the US could take over the running of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants as a form of security guarantee, following the Trump-Zelenskyy call this week.

Asked by reporters at a news conference in Norway about the Zaporizhzhia power plant, Zelenskyy said: “All nuclear power plants belong to the people of Ukraine.

“These are state-owned nuclear power plants, it is not private property in Ukraine.

“If the Americans want to take the station from the Russians and they want to invest there and modernise it, that is a completely different issue.

“We are open to discuss it, but the issue of property we definitely did not discuss with President Trump.”

Meanwhile, Trump has already had phone conversation with Putin in a bid to strike a peace deal to end the ongoing war.
