Kano State has approved a salary increase for tertiary institution staff, with academic staff set to receive a 25% raise and non-academic staff a 35% increase. The new pay structure will take effect from March 2025.
The Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Waiya, announced the decision following the State Executive Council meeting in Kano. He emphasized that the increase reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare and strengthening the education sector.
Alongside the salary adjustments, the state government has approved ₦3.3 billion for various development projects.
This includes ₦148.9 million for road repairs at the School of Technology, ₦367.9 million for the expansion of Zaria Road, and ₦612.4 million to convert external electrical infrastructure to an underground system at Government House while relocating power lines along Ahmadu Bello Way.
Other approved funds include ₦184 million for the purchase of two ambulances for the Government House Clinic and Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital, ₦348 million to settle electricity bills owed to KEDCO for November and December 2024, and ₦662 million for feeding students in boarding schools over a three-week period.
Additionally, ₦100 million has been allocated to support the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in hosting its Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Kano.
The Kano government says these initiatives are part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure, education, and the welfare of public workers.
