2026 World Cup qualifier: Nigerians react to Super Eagles’ 2-0 victory over Rwanda

Some Nigerian football supporters have expressed delight over the national team’s performance against Rwanda in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, which the Super Eagles won 2-0 on Friday in Kigali.

Media Talk Africa reports that two first-half goals from Victor Osimhen secured all three points for Eric Chelle’s side against Rwanda.

Osimhen opened the scoring with a side-footed finish from team-mate Ademola Lookman’s free-kick.

The Napoli loanee then doubled Nigeria’s advantage after stealing the ball on the halfway line and slotting it past the host team’s goalkeeper.

The result means the Super Eagles are now third in Group C, following South Africa’s 2-0 victory over Lesotho.

After the game, fans took to their X (formerly Twitter) accounts to share their thoughts about the match.

Here are some comments gathered by Media Talk Africa from X:

@okafo_obiora – “@victorosimhen9 I need a hat-trick against Zimbabwe. Please take us to the World Cup.”

@Esopi1_ – “I love this team.”

@Itata_9 – “More work to do.”

@mayorofsomorin – “It was a good game, and Chelle’s attacking philosophy is clear. However, he needs to find a way to balance the midfield with Oyedika, as the Ndidi-Iwobi pairing left us exposed today. He also needs to be quicker with his substitutions and make better use of the squad depth. We move.”

@Killaman_real – “CLASSIC @victorosimhen9.”

@HaalalMc – “Pride of Africa.”

@earlability – “Let’s go! More wins and we can secure our spot for the World Cup.”

@EmmerryR81414 – “@victorosimhen9 is a great asset to Nigeria.”

@shextian – “Good job, guys.”

@Emperor_DMC – “Soar, Super Eagles! Much-needed win.”

@birdisblack_ – “Expensive 3 points.”

@pisforpreye – “3 points in the bag. On Tuesday, we move. The game changer. Baller par excellence. Victor Osimhen.”

@ssnews247 – “Good game… But we should’ve done better.”

Nigeria’s next match is against Zimbabwe on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
