Mikel Obi, Babayaro return to play for Chelsea

Two former Nigeria internationals, John Mikel Obi and Celestine Babayaro, played for Chelsea Legends on Saturday as they faced Liverpool Legends in a charity match.

Mikel Obi and Babayaro lined up alongside former Blues stars such as Claude Makélélé, Florent Malouda, Ramires, Dennis Wise, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Sir Kenny Dalglish managed the Liverpool Legends and handed starts to Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypiä, Ryan Babel, Dirk Kuyt, and Jerzy Dudek.

However, it was Peter Crouch who stole the show with two goals on his return to Anfield.

Crouch opened the scoring early in the second half, heading home Florent Sinama-Pongolle’s brilliant cross.

He doubled the Reds’ advantage 11 minutes later with a fine lobbed finish over Rob Green.

Chelsea Legends missed good chances through Robert Huth and Jon Harley.

Mikel Obi spent 11 years at Chelsea, winning multiple titles, including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the 2012 Champions League.

Babayaro played for Chelsea earlier, from 1997 to 2005.
