2026 WCQ: Rohr names country that won’t qualify from Group C

Benin Republic Coach, Gernot Rohr, has insisted that Zimbabwe stand no chance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

This was following their 2-2 draw with Benin’s Cheetahs in the Match Day 5 in the Group C of the African qualifying series on Thursday evening.

Benin Republic gave up a 2-0 lead, allowing Zimbabwe to secure a 2-2 draw, with Marshall Munetsi and Knowledge Musona scoring for Zimbabwe to cancel out first half strikes from Steve Mounié and Dokou Dodo.

South Africa now tops the Group C following their 2-0 win against Lesotho.

Though Zimbabwe are seven points behind group leaders, South Africa, Rohr believes they would fight to finish against Nigeria in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday evening.

Rohr also is of the belief that Benin Republic had the upper hand against Zimbabwe in the first half but allowed them to fight back in the second.

He told post-match press conference, “We knew that it was the last chance for Zimbabwe to qualify for the World Cup. Now, with three points it is finished.

“But they are fighting very well and I know with this coach and his staff, they will do the same in Uyo and the same against Rwanda and Lesotho.”
