You can’t blame Chelle — Peter Obi reacts as Nigeria fails to beat Zimbabwe

The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has reacted to Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Media Talk Africa reports that Victor Osimhen gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 74th minute.

However, Zimbabwe equalised in the 90th minute through Tawanda Chirewa’s goal.

Reacting to the result, Obi, who was present at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium to watch the match, said the Super Eagles coach cannot be blamed for the outcome.

The former Anambra State governor also praised the Super Eagles players, saying they performed excellently against the visitors.

“If you look at the players, they were good, they were excellent,” Obi told journalists inside the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

“You can’t, in any way, blame the coach or the players.”

He added, “It’s just that sometimes, this happens in life.”

The result against Zimbabwe means the Super Eagles remain in fourth place in Group C.

They are behind leaders South Africa, as well as Benin Republic and Rwanda.
