Broos rates South Africa’s chances of qualifying for World Cup

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has said that South Africa is in a good position to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ahead of the likes of Nigeria, Rwanda, and Benin Republic in Group C of the qualifying campaign.

South Africa extended their lead in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

Broos’s side are leading the group with 13 points after beating Benin Republic 2-0 in Abidjan.

They have a five-point advantage over their nearest challengers, Rwanda, with Nigeria in fourth place with seven points after Matchday 6.

However, Broos believes South Africa can secure the World Cup ticket if they don’t do anything foolish.

“We have to be confident and not be afraid of anybody that plays against us,” Broos was quoted by Sowetan Live as saying.

“The only thing we can do is to continue working hard like we’ve been doing. We must not think that everything is already done.

“We are already in a good position, but I think with the group that we are in, if we don’t do foolish things, we are very close to qualification.”
