Sallah: Emir Sanusi cancels Durbar, gives reason

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has cancelled the hosting of this year’s horse riding and Sallah festivities known as Durbar.

Sanusi announced the cancellation in a statewide broadcast where he expressed regret over the decision.

He stressed that it was necessary to ensure the safety of lives and property, which is his top priority.

“We find it necessary to cancel any arrangements made for the Sallah celebrations given the current situation.

“The Sallah Durbar is not a do-or-die affair for us. If it risks becoming a source of chaos, loss of life, or destruction of property, then it is best to shelve it,” he said.

The monarch expressed hope that his decision would contribute to ensuring lasting peace in Kano State.

Sanusi admonished residents to embrace the decision in the interest of public safety.
