State of emergency unnecessary in Zamfara – Ex-adviser

Sani Abdullahi Wamban Shinkafi, a former adviser on government affairs to ex-Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle, has rejected calls for the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

Shinkafi, who is also a former national secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), urged President Bola Tinubu to disregard such calls, claiming they come from failed politicians. According to him, security in Zamfara has significantly improved, and residents are now conducting their daily activities without disruption.

The former governorship candidate called on Governor Dauda Lawal to remain focused on delivering democratic dividends to the people of the state. He also warned political opponents against distracting the governor in his efforts to bring about positive change, emphasizing that the people’s interests should take precedence over partisan politics.

He commended Governor Lawal for his strong commitment to development and strategic vision while working closely with President Tinubu and security agencies to combat banditry in Zamfara. As a result, peace and stability have returned to many parts of the state.

The people of Zamfara have long suffered from bandit attacks, kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling, and forced displacement from their ancestral homes. However, these challenges did not start recently.

“It is time to rebuild the state, boost economic activities, and deliver the benefits of democracy to ease the suffering of the people,” Shinkafi stated.

He urged politicians in Zamfara to set aside personal interests and contribute to the state’s progress. “Governor Lawal is not the problem. Let him do the job he was elected to do without unnecessary interference,” he added.
