Muslims in Abia celebrate Eid el-Fitr, call for peace

Alhaji Aminu Lawan, the Chief Imam of Umuahia Central Mosque, has urged Muslim faithful and all Nigerians to use the Eid-El Fitr celebration to demonstrate love and care for one another, regardless of religious differences.

He made this appeal while officiating the Eid prayer at Umuahia Township Stadium, which was attended by a large number of Muslim worshippers.

The Imam stated that the period should be used to pray for the peace, unity, and progress of the country and its leaders. He described the celebration as a time for sober reflection, emphasising the importance of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect for national development.

Alhaji Yaro Danladi, the Sariki Hausawa of Abia State, who described the event as one of the pillars of Islam, urged the faithful to emulate the life of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

When Media Talk Africa visited Eket Street, Umuahia, an area with a large northern population, it was bustling with celebration as the Muslim community exchanged pleasantries with friends and customers, including Christians who came to wish them a happy Sallah.
