The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the killing and attack on vigilante members during the entourage of Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II after Eid prayers.
The incident which occurred on Sunday, March 30, 2025, led to the tragic death of a vigilante member and injuries to another.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police disclosed that Usman Sagiru, 20, of Sharifai Quarters was apprehended in connection with the attack.

According to preliminary investigations, Sagiru and others, who are still at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, who later succumbed to his injuries.

Another victim, Aminu Suleman, from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano.

The police further revealed that Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, has been invited for questioning as investigations into the incident continue.

Reiterating its stance on public order, the Kano State Police Command reaffirmed the ban on all Durbar activities, warning that anyone found engaging in the event or related disturbances would face legal consequences.

The Command also condemned thuggery (Daba) and vowed to take decisive action against individuals who threaten public peace.

“We appeal to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all,” the statement read.

The Command assured that all those involved in the attack will be brought to justice, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
