Sunday Oliseh, Rio Ferdinand agree with England star on decision to leave EPL

Former Super Eagles midfielder and coach Sunday Oliseh has agreed with ex-England star Rio Ferdinand’s call for Liverpool fans to appreciate Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contributions to the Reds.

This comes after backlash from supporters over the England international’s decision to leave the club.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, is a product of Liverpool’s academy but has reportedly agreed to join LaLiga giants Real Madrid on a free transfer—a move few players would turn down.

His impending departure has divided opinion among Reds fans, with Ferdinand—a former Manchester United defender—weighing in on the debate.

Speaking on his show Rio Presents, he urged Liverpool supporters to celebrate Alexander-Arnold’s achievements rather than begrudge his exit.

“You should be saying thank you and good luck,” Ferdinand said.

Oliseh, a former Nigeria international, echoed Ferdinand’s view on social media, stressing the importance of gratitude.

“As is often the case, Rio nails it again on the Trent Alexander-Arnold departure rants. The man served you, decides to leave, and you should wish him well!” Oliseh posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The LaLiga champions and the player are said to be confident of finalising the deal this summer, bringing an end to the right-back’s era at Anfield.
