Edo Assembly: PDP nominates Minority Leader, Minority Whip

Twenty-four hours after their removal as the Majority Leader and Chief Whip of the Edo State House of Assembly, Charity Airobarueghian and Yekini Idaiye have emerged Minority Leader and Minority Whip of the House, respectively.

Media Talk Africa reports that the duo were among those removed from their former positions on Monday, March 7, 2025.

The other lawmaker removed alongside with the duo was Natasha Osawaru Irobosa, who was replaced as the Deputy Majority Leader.

Aiguobarueghian, Ovia North-East I, Irobosa, Egor and Idaiye, Akoko-Edo I, are Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers.

The trio were replaced with Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan, APC, Esan West, Addeh Emakhu Isibor, APC, Esan North-East I, and Lecky Hussein Mustapha, APC, Etsako West I, as Majority Leader, Deputy Leader and Chief Whip of the House, respectively.

The Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbebaku announced the PDP’s principal officers on Tuesday at an emergency plenary sitting.

Agbebaku said the duo were nominated by the state leadership of the PDP.

The Speaker read a letter dated April 8, 2025 and addressed to him by Dr Anthony Aziegbemi, chairman, caretaker committee of the Edo PDP.

Parts of the letter titled, ‘Nomination for Principal Officers’, read, “After due consultation the following are nominated to fill the following positions.

“They are Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian, Minority Leader and Hon Yekini Idaiye, the Minority Whip.”
