Security challenges are best tackled at grassroots – Kebbi govt

The Kebbi State Government has said strengthening security at the grassroots is key to addressing broader safety challenges across the state.

As part of this strategy, Governor Nasir Idris has launched a training programme for all Local Government Chairmen, aimed at equipping them with the skills and tools needed to manage crises, engage communities, and collaborate with security agencies.

The initiative, themed “Predictive and Community Policing to Increase Security in Kebbi State,” is being organised by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in partnership with Shegs Communications Limited and security experts.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Garba Dutsin Mari, said the training will bridge existing security gaps and empower chairmen as direct links between citizens and government.

“Our approach is preventive and people-focused. This will deepen collaboration between communities and law enforcement,” he added.

Governor Idris described the effort as a proactive step toward building a safer Kebbi, driven by local leadership and community involvement.
