Transgender: Law finally caught up with science – Biologist, Dawkins on UK Supreme Court ruling

British evolutionary biologist and zoologist, Richard Dawkins has reacted to the UK Supreme Court ruling on the definition of ‘woman’ under the country’s equality law, which refers to biological sex.

Media Talk Africa had earlier reported that the Deputy President of the Supreme Court, Lord Hodge, disclosed a summary of the decision to the public on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court ruling has sparked reactions on social media.

Reacting, Dawkins praised the Supreme Court’s ruling, saying the law has finally caught up with science.

“Supreme Court rules that a woman is legally defined as … a woman,” Dawkins said in a post on X on Wednesday.

“Congratulations. And ‘The concept of sex is binary, a person is either a woman or a man’. Yes, the science was settled in the Precambrian [era]. Nice that the law has finally caught up.”

Meanwhile, a British writer, JK Rowling had shared her reaction to the ruling on transgender women.
