Power you hold is not for personal gain, remember the poor – Cleric tells political leaders

A cleric, Bishop Chris Ewvie Kwakpovwe, has advised political office holders across the country to remember that the power they hold is not for personal gain.

Kwakpovwe, who doubles as the publisher of Our Daily Manna devotional, issued the admonition in his Easter message, which was made available to newsmen in a statement on Monday.

The cleric acknowledged that many Nigerians are suffering.

He declared that the economy is failing while masses are groaning.

According to him, the present situation in the country has deprived many families of the ability to eat.

He emphasized that Jesus Christ never condemned the poor — instead, He drew near to them, fed them, healed them, and gave them dignity.

“The economy is failing. The masses are groaning. Families cannot feed. Youths are unemployed. Many are losing faith — not just in the system, but in the message of hope we preach from our altars.

“This should trouble the conscience of both the pulpit and the statehouse.

“To the clergy: remember, Christ drove out the money changers but embraced the weary and downtrodden. Let us not become blind to the pain around us. Easter is not just about resurrection—it’s about compassion, about sacrifice, about hope.

“To our political leaders: the power you hold is not for personal gain. It is a sacred trust. As Christ gave Himself for humanity, so must you give yourselves in service to the people. Let this Easter awaken your conscience,” he said.
