APC Chairman Kidnapped in Ondo State Found Dead After Ransom Negotiations

A devastating turn of events has unfolded in Ondo State, Nigeria, where the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nelson Adepoyigi, was tragically killed by his kidnappers. The abduction occurred last Monday when Adepoyigi was parking his vehicle at his residence in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area. In a shocking display of brutality, the kidnappers initially demanded a staggering N100 million ransom, which was later reduced to N5 million after negotiations and pleas.

Despite the efforts to secure Adepoyigi’s release, the situation took a dire turn when two community members volunteered to deliver the N5 million ransom. Unfortunately, they were also taken captive by the kidnappers, who then demanded an additional N30 million ransom for the release of all three individuals. In a surprising move, the kidnappers released the two volunteers, but revealed that Adepoyigi had been marked for death from the outset.

The Chairman of Ose Local Government, Kolapo Ojo, has expressed his deep concern over the escalating security challenges in the area, stating that the situation has become “critical.” He emphasized that the frequency and brazen nature of these abductions, often occurring at the very gates of people’s homes, have made the insecurity “dangerous and intolerable.” Ojo urged the community to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities to the nearest security post, and stand united in the face of this threat.

The killing of Nelson Adepoyigi is a stark reminder of the dire security situation in the region, where kidnappings and ransom demands have become all too common. As the community mourns the loss of their leader, they are also left to grapple with the harsh reality of living in an area where insecurity has taken hold. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, highlighting the need for increased security measures and a united effort to combat the growing threat of kidnapping and violence.
