Nigerian Politician Seeks Compensation After Election Loss
In a surprising turn of events, Mrs. Abimbola Oladokun, a chairmanship aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Orile Agege, Lagos State, has appealed to the party leadership to consider compensating her for her loyal service and dedication. This comes after her loss in the recent local government election primaries, which were held on May 10 at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja.
Oladokun, who has been a faithful member of the party since its inception, has contested for the position seven times, showcasing her unwavering commitment to the APC and her community. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, she expressed her disappointment and surprise at the outcome of the primaries, given her hard work and loyalty. "I have always been a true servant to my community and my party," she stated. "I have single-handedly been packing waste with my truck at the community level."
The politician also recalled President Bola Tinubu’s directive to party leaders to create opportunities for women to hold elective positions. However, she noted that the majority of female aspirants, including herself, lost in the primary election. Oladokun has therefore called on the President to intervene in her case, emphasizing her dedication to the party and her community.
Despite her loss, Oladokun remains a loyal member of the APC and has appealed to the party! leadership to consider her political ambition and compensate her for her efforts. However, the Lagos State APC chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has urged all aspirants who did not receive the party’s ticket to work towards the party’s victory in the upcoming elections. Ojelabi assured that the party would reward hardworking and committed members, encouraging them to focus on campaigning for the APC.
As the APC gears up for the elections, Oladokun’s appeal for compensation highlights the importance of recognizing and rewarding dedication and loyalty within the party. Her story serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by female politicians in Nigeria and the need for greater representation and opportunities for women in leadership positions. Whether or not Oladokun’s appeal will be successful remains to be seen, but her determination and commitment to the APC and her community are undeniable.
