Sokoto APC group dissociates self from rumoured defection

A coalition of All Progressive Congress Supporters Groups in Sokoto State has denied the rumour of alleged defection of its members to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

In a press statement signed by the chairman of the group, Suleiman Mahmud, and delivered at the NUJ press centre in Sokoto on Wednesday, the group alleged that those promoting the defection rumours were being sponsored by the leadership of the PDP in the state.

The chairman, who is also the Special Adviser, Youth and Students matters to the former governor of the state and leader of the APC in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, says his group is the only recognised group that stands for the APC youths in the state.

He said, “We are aware of the heinous plans by some persons masquerading as the leadership of the group to make a formal declaration and support for the PDP.

“We wish to state categorically that those behind the move are persons being sponsored by the unpopular and failed PDP administration in the state.

“What is happening is a gang-up to ensure that we don’t succeed in our bid to dislodge the unpopular and failed PDP administration in Sokoto State.

“We wish to strongly and categorically state that those behind the plot are not part of our party and not known to this group. We also vehemently reject their planned dastardly action.”

The group reaffirmed its commitment to ensure that the APC clears all available seats during the forthcoming 2023 general election.
