Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, addressed election observers on Friday, urging them to approach their responsibilities with a strong sense of patriotism and reverence for God. This appeal was made during a state-wide address, which was monitored by our correspondent, in anticipation of the upcoming presidential and National Assembly elections. The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and advised observers to avoid any actions that could damage the country’s reputation, particularly by resisting the temptations to become instruments of partisan groups and organizations.

Yahaya stated, “To civil society groups, including domestic and international election observer missions, I urge you to approach your assignment with patriotism and fear of God. Remember that elections will come and go, but Nigeria remains. You must resist the temptation to become willing tools at the hands of some domestic or international groups seeking to tarnish the reputation of our country.”

As the Chief Security Officer of the state, Yahaya assured the public of their safety and commended security agencies for their vital role in maintaining peace. He expressed his honor in leading Gombe during this pivotal moment in its history, stating, “I have no greater objective than to see our country, and Gombe in particular, deliver elections that are peaceful, fair, and credible.”

The governor also expressed his confidence in the electoral process and the professionalism of security agencies. He acknowledged the innovative reforms implemented by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) over the past four years, which aim to enhance the efficiency and credibility of elections. Yahaya extended his gratitude to the leadership of INEC and President Muhammadu Buhari for their courage and dedication.

Furthermore, he commended the security agencies for their unwavering commitment and loyalty to the nation, recognizing them as essential protectors of democracy. “Through your sacrifice and determination, you are working day and night to protect our democracy from enemies both internal and external. I would like to assure you of my unconditional support and cooperation,” Yahaya concluded.
