Niger Delta Groups Call for Collaboration with South South Development Commission to Boost Regional Growth

South-South groups call for collaboration between SSDC, stakeholders

In a bid to accelerate development in the South-South region of Nigeria, two prominent civic groups from the Niger Delta have urged stakeholders to collaborate with the newly established South South Development Commission, SSDC. The United Youth Association and Relief International Africa made this call, emphasizing the potential for strategic partnerships to drive inclusive growth, sustainable development, and effective service delivery in the region.

The SSDC, which was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025, is tasked with addressing the developmental challenges that have hindered the progress of the South-South region. According to Ambassador Alfred Etuk, Senior National Advisor at Relief International Africa, a partnership between his organization and the SSDC would be instrumental in tackling the socio-economic and infrastructural challenges that have plagued the region. “Relief International Africa looks forward to strategic collaboration with the SSDC under Akpabio’s stewardship to deepen impact, empower local populations, and address pressing socio-economic and infrastructural challenges,” Etuk stated.

The United Youth Association has also expressed its eagerness to work with the SSDC, particularly in the implementation of policies that promote youth development and overall regional progress. The group believes that the SSDC, under the leadership of Managing Director Usoro Akpabio, will play a pivotal role in empowering young people and fostering their participation in the region’s development. By working together, these civic groups and the SSDC aim to bring about positive change and progress in the South-South region, ultimately improving the lives of its inhabitants.

As the SSDC begins its work, the importance of collaboration between stakeholders cannot be overstated. By pooling their resources and expertise, these groups can help address the region’s developmental challenges and pave the way for a brighter future. With the SSDC at the helm, the South-South region may finally be on the cusp of realizing its full potential, and the involvement of civic groups like the United Youth Association and Relief International Africa will be crucial in ensuring that the Commission’s efforts are successful and sustainable.
