Fifteen men were arrested on Friday in Katsina State on suspicion of planning to interfere with the results of the 2023 general elections. The spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the arrests on Friday night. He explained that the suspects were apprehended in Katsina while in possession of unspecified numbers of computer laptops and applications allegedly linked to a popular political party. The men are currently being detained at the command’s Criminal Investigation Department, where an investigation into the matter is underway.
SP Isah stated, “We arrested fifteen suspects with unspecified numbers of laptops and apps belonging to a political party. We have commenced investigation and we don’t want to jump the gun. We have already invited experts to conduct an investigation on the items, and we will make public the outcome of the investigation.”
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in Katsina State was generally calm on Saturday morning, as security operatives had taken positions at strategic locations, including communities where voting would occur and various sensitive areas throughout the state. There are also restrictions on both human and vehicular movements across the state, with security personnel present at all entry and exit points.
