Nigerian Troops Eliminate 8 Terrorists in Katsina State Encounter

In a significant victory for the Nigerian military, troops from the 17 Brigade have successfully eliminated eight terrorists in an encounter along the Kurfi-Batsari Road in Katsina State. This achievement is a result of the military’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism under Operation Fasan Yamma. According to a statement from the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, the troops engaged the terrorists in a prolonged duel, thwarting their plans and dealing them significant casualties.

The military’s swift response to the terrorist threat has resulted in the recovery of several weapons and ammunition, including five AK-47 rifles, six AK-47 magazines, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. This not only underscores the military’s preparedness and tactical prowess but also highlights the continued threat posed by terrorist groups in the region. Despite the success of the operation, a soldier was wounded in action and has been evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment.

Maj.-Gen. Kangye’s statement emphasized that the situation remains calm, with the troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remaining high. The Defence Headquarters has commended the bravery and professionalism of the troops involved in the operation, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.
