Zamfara State Now Pays Highest Salary to Doctors in Northern Nigeria

In a significant move to boost the healthcare sector in Zamfara State, Nigeria, Governor Dauda Lawal has approved a salary increase for medical doctors, making them the highest-paid in Northern Nigeria. This development was announced by the State Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Ibrahim Hano, during a news conference in Gusau.

According to Dr. Hano, the governor’s administration has implemented historic reforms in the state’s health sector, including the review of doctors’ welfare packages. The enhanced remuneration package for medical doctors includes the implementation of the “skipping” policy and the introduction of rural posting allowances. This move is expected to significantly improve the morale of health workers, enhance retention, and make the state’s health service more attractive.

The NMA has commended Governor Lawal’s administration for its efforts in transforming the healthcare sector in Zamfara State. The governor’s timely health reforms are expected to set a new benchmark for sustainable healthcare delivery in the state and the northern region. The renovation, expansion, and modernization of the State Specialist Hospital in Gusau, as well as several general hospitals across the state, have also been praised by the NMA.

The provision of cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment equipment has improved the capacity of health facilities to manage complex medical conditions. Furthermore, the recent approval for the recruitment of healthcare professionals across various cadres is seen as a forward-thinking measure that addresses the longstanding workforce deficits in the sector. The recognition of primary healthcare as the bedrock of public health is also a notable aspect of the governor’s healthcare reforms.

With these developments, Zamfara State is poised to become a model for healthcare delivery in Northern Nigeria. The NMA’s commendation of Governor Lawal’s administration is a testament to the impact of his reforms on the healthcare sector. As the state continues to invest in its healthcare infrastructure and workforce, it is likely to attract more medical professionals and provide better healthcare services to its citizens. This move is a significant step towards improving the overall health and wellbeing of the people of Zamfara State and the wider region.
