Wamakko breaks silence on Vice Presidential ambition claims

Former Sokoto State governor and Senator representing Sokoto North senatorial district, Aliyu Wamakko has denied all claims alluding he is nursing a vice-presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Abdallah El-Kurebe, he described a recent report titled “2027 Aspirations: Northern Leaders Urged to Support Wamakko”, which attributed calls for Wamakko’s candidacy to the Chairman of Kebbe Local Government Area, Abdullahi Yerima as unauthorized.

He revealed that Wammako has not expressed any interest publicly or privately in contesting for the office of Vice President.

“We wish to state unequivocally that Senator Wamakko has never publicly or privately expressed interest in contesting for the position of Vice President in the 2027 general elections or in any political arrangement of that nature. Any insinuation or claim to that effect is false, baseless, and highly irresponsible,” the statement continued.

El-Kurebe further describe Yerima’s remarks as “a reckless and deliberate act of political mischief intended to mislead the public and drag the name of the Distinguished Senator into needless and unfounded political speculation.”

Senator Wamakko also demanded an immediate retraction and a public apology from Yerima, urging him to desist from any actions that could damage his reputation or misrepresent his political stance.

As at the time of filling this report, Abdullahi Yerima has not issued any response to the senator’s demand for a retraction and apology.
