The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun uploading the polling unit results for the 2023 presidential election on its website. As of 11:35 PM on Saturday, a total of 4,102 results out of 176,846 polling units had been uploaded. This delay in updating the results has raised concerns among civil society groups, particularly Yiaga Africa, which highlighted the failure of INEC to utilize its result viewing portal in a timely manner.
Yiaga Africa expressed its worries as counting of votes commenced in various polling units across the country. The portal, known as INEC Rev, was specifically designed for presiding officers to upload results from their respective polling units. In a tweet from its official account, @YIAGA, the organization stated that it was “deeply concerned” about the lack of uploaded results, especially since voting and counting had concluded in several areas.
The tweet further emphasized the urgency of the situation: “Update: Yiaga Africa is deeply concerned with the delay in uploading polling unit results for the presidential election on the INEC election result portal. As of 7 PM on election day, no result was uploaded after voting and counting ended in several polling units. #NigeriaDecides2023.” Additionally, the civil society organization shared a photo of the INEC website, which displayed that no results had been uploaded from polling units nationwide.
