Biodun Olujimi Doubts ADC’s Clout Against Tinubu in 2027 Presidential Race
In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Biodun Olujimi, a former deputy governor of Ekiti State, cast doubt on the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s ability to challenge incumbent President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Olujimi, despite having cordial relations with ADC leaders, believes the party lacks the organizational strength to unseat the ruling party at the ballot.
“I couldn’t have aligned with the ADC. I have a good relationship with its leaders, who are also my seniors,” Olujimi stated. “However, the party is not well-established. It lacks sturdy structures, which are crucial for dislodging the ruling party.”
Olujimi’s reservations about the ADC follow the party’s recent adoption as the political platform for a coalition of prominent Nigerians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, former Senate President David Mark, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. This coalition hopes to contest the 2027 presidential election on the ADC ticket.
Media Talk Africa reports that the coalition, which adopted the ADC on July 1, 2023, sees the party as a unifying platform for their political aspirations. Despite Olujimi’s misgivings, the coalition remains optimistic about the ADC’s potential to challenge the ruling party in the next elections.
