Maureen Gwacham, the candidate from the All Progressives Grand Alliance, has been declared the winner of the Oyi/Ayamelum Federal constituency in the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on Saturday, February 25, in Anambra State. Gwacham received a total of 15,299 votes, defeating her closest rival, Charles Uchenna Okafor of the Young Progressive Party, who garnered 13,332 votes. The Labour Party candidate, Chira Obiora Uzochukwu, received 8,159 votes, while the incumbent, Vincent Ofumelu from the PDP, secured 6,912 votes.

In her message of gratitude to the constituents, Gwacham expressed her sincere appreciation for their support in her election to the National Assembly. She stated, “My fellow Oyi and Ayamelum compatriots, it is with profound gratitude and immeasurable concern that I stand before you to demonstrate my sincere appreciation for making this project of sending me to the green chambers of the National Assembly a reality. It is not by my might nor by my power that I was elected; it is the collective efforts and unwavering support of you all, alongside the will of God, that brought me this far. Therefore, I dedicate this win to God Almighty and the ever-patriotic people of Oyi and Ayamelum. From me to you, thank you, thank you.”

Gwacham further emphasized the responsibilities that come with her election, noting that “to whom much is given, much is expected.” She assured her constituents that their expectations would be met and vowed not to let them down. “We must get back to demonstrating those things we carefully arranged as our manifesto prior to being elected as your lawmakers,” she said. Gwacham committed to staying true to their vision and pledged to propose impactful legislation that aligns with the provision of basic amenities for the people of Oyi and Ayamelum, and by extension, all Nigerians.
