INEC declares Atiku winner of presidential election in Taraba

The Taraba State branch of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced former Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, as the winner of the just concluded presidential election in Taraba State.

Announcing the results on Tuesday, shortly after the collation was brought to an end, the state Collation Officer for the presidential election, Prof Mohammad Ahmad Abdullaziz, announced that the PDP candidate scored a total vote of 189, 017 to emerge winner of the exercise.

Trailing behind the PDP presidential candidate, are the presidential candidates of both the Labour Party, LP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 146, 315 and 135, 165 votes respectively.

While the total number of registered voters in the state was put at 1, 941, 549, the number of accredited voters, as listed by him, was 521, 442.

A total of 517, 818 were cast by the electorate, of which 18, 460 were rejected votes while 499, 358 votes were valid.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the announcement, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Umar Gajiram, applauded the people of the state for distancing themselves from acts capable of disrupting the exercise.

He enjoined them to do the same in the coming governorship and state House of Assembly elections scheduled for next week.
