Nigerian Film Corporation Debunks Social Media Rumors of Managing Director’s Death

The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has issued a statement dismissing social media rumors claiming the death of its Managing Director, Dr. Ali Nuhu. The speculation began when a Facebook user posted a video alleging Nuhu’s passing, which was later followed by another post claiming he had died in a fatal car crash.

However, Brian Etuk, the NFC’s Director of Public Affairs, swiftly debunked the claims as “false and malicious” in a statement issued on Monday evening. Etuk assured the public that Dr. Nuhu is “alive, well, and fully carrying out his responsibilities” as the Managing Director of the NFC.

The NFC’s statement emphasized that the reports, including videos and pictures of Dr. Nuhu, are “not only malicious and injurious but false in their entirety.” The corporation also highlighted that Dr. Nuhu was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on February 12, 2024, and is actively discharging his duties as the Chief Executive of the NFC.

Furthermore, the NFC cautioned that measures are being taken against individuals responsible for spreading the misinformation. The corporation warned perpetrators of the “dire and unmistakable consequences” of their actions, stressing that “appropriate measures have been initiated to arrest this ugly, baleful, and unsatisfactory conduct and trend.”

The NFC also expressed appreciation for the genuine concerns expressed by the general public, private, and public sector stakeholders regarding the false reports. The corporation’s prompt response aims to put an end to the speculation and reassure the public that Dr. Nuhu is indeed alive and well.

This incident highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social media, as false reports can cause unnecessary panic and harm to individuals and organizations. The NFC’s swift response demonstrates its commitment to transparency and accountability, and serves as a reminder to be cautious when sharing information online.
