Nigeria’s APC Suspends Senator Gbenga Daniel, Kunle Folarin Over Anti-Party Activities

Nigeria’s Ruling Party Suspends Senator, Party Member Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s Ogun State has indefinitely suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel and Kunle Folarin, a party member, over allegations of anti-party activities. According to a statement issued by the party’s state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, the suspension follows investigations by the party’s disciplinary committees, which found the duo guilty of misconduct and attempting to pressure party members to withdraw petitions against them.

The suspension was announced after a meeting held on August 19, where 16 members were present. Sanusi stated that the party’s State Working Committee had ratified the suspensions, demonstrating the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding its constitution.

The allegations against Daniel and Folarin were raised by their respective wards, which set up disciplinary committees to investigate the claims. The committees invited the accused members to present their defenses but were met with deliberate and unexplained absences. As a result, the committees deliberated without the accused, hearing from witnesses and considering documentary evidence.

Furthermore, the committees received reports that Daniel and Folarin had been harassing party members and warning them against cooperating with the investigation. The party members under investigation were also accused of using their positions within the party to pressure others to withdraw petitions against them.

Sanusi explained that the suspension was necessary to protect the integrity of the disciplinary process and prevent interference from the accused members. The party is committed to upholding its constitution and maintaining discipline within its ranks, he added.

The suspension highlights the party’s efforts to address internal conflicts and maintain unity ahead of the next general elections. It also underscores the APC’s commitment to accountability and transparency within its ranks.

As the party continues to investigate the allegations, the fate of Daniel and Folarin remains uncertain. However, the APC’s actions demonstrate a clear commitment to maintaining internal discipline and upholding its values.
