Abia ADC Chairman Suspended Over Alleged Misconduct and Disregard for Party Principles

Crisis Hits Abia State Chapter of African Democratic Congress as Chairman is Suspended

In a dramatic turn of events, the Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into crisis following the suspension of its chairman, Mr. Don Norman Obinna, over allegations of misconduct and disregard for party principles. The decision, announced during a harmonization meeting of different factions of the party held on Friday at Aba, has sparked intense debate and divided opinions within the party ranks.

According to Okoroafor Kanu, the Interim Chairman of the party, Obinna’s leadership style has alienated party members, leading to a motion being passed to set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the allegations. Kanu, who now heads the disciplinary committee, revealed that the decision to suspend Obinna was reached after deliberation and a thorough review of the petitions against him.

However, the suspension has been strongly contested by some party members, including Rev. Blessed Amalambu, the ADC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate for Umuahia North constituency. Amalambu has dismissed the process used in the suspension as unconstitutional and lacking in credibility, insisting that the panel that suspended the ADC Chairman lacked legal backing.

Another party stalwart, who spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed concerns that external forces may be attempting to manipulate the party’s internal affairs. The individual warned that any attempt to push out original ADC members would be met with resistance.

Meanwhile, Mr. Obinna has maintained that he remains the authentic Chairman of the ADC in Abia, stating this during a recent meeting in Umuahia. The development has raised questions about the party’s internal governance and the legitimacy of the suspension process.

As the crisis within the Abia State chapter of the ADC deepens, party members and stakeholders are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the disciplinary committee’s investigation. The situation has significant implications for the party’s future in the state and its ability to present a united front in the face of electoral challenges.

As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the African Democratic Congress in Abia State is facing a defining moment in its history. The party’s leadership and members must navigate this crisis carefully to ensure that the ADC emerges stronger and more united than ever.
