Tinubu vows to drive Nigeria’s growth through technology and food security

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has reiterated his commitment to accelerating the country’s development through the strategic adoption of technology and the enhancement of food security. This pledge was made during a meeting with Nigerians living in Brazil, where he emphasized the importance of innovation, reform, and inclusive growth in transforming the nation.

Tinubu drew parallels between Nigeria and Brazil, noting that both countries once shared similar economic trajectories. He expressed admiration for Brazil’s impressive development in technology and food systems, querying what factors have contributed to Brazil’s success that Nigeria can learn from. The president underscored the potential of Nigerian youth, energy, and brainpower, stressing the need for action to leverage these assets.

The president commended the vibrant Nigerian diaspora community in Brazil, urging them to be key stakeholders in building a new Nigeria rooted in innovation, culture, and shared responsibility. He acknowledged the challenges faced by citizens due to ongoing economic reforms but emphasized that these reforms are essential for long-term stability and prosperity.

Tinubu highlighted his government’s efforts to forge global partnerships that can unlock Nigeria’s potential in manufacturing, technology, and cultural exchange. He expressed support for an upcoming cultural initiative inspired by Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka, emphasizing the need for collective action to realize the dream of a prosperous Nigeria.

The meeting, attended by top government officials and representatives of Nigerians living in Brazil, marked a significant moment in Nigeria’s engagement with its global community. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, described the occasion as historically significant, noting the deep-rooted historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State praised the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, citing the clearance of a $7 billion forex backlog as a major intervention that has improved the investment climate in Nigeria. The introduction of direct flights from Lagos to São Paulo is expected to boost economic activity and potentially create the need for a Nigerian consulate in the city.

The National Assembly has expressed its readiness to support President Tinubu in advancing initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral ties with Brazil and promoting national development. As Nigeria continues to navigate its path to economic stability and growth, the role of the diaspora community and international partnerships is likely to remain a key focus of the Tinubu administration’s development strategy.
