The Centre for Intellectual Services on the Sokoto Caliphate has announced the recipients of the 2025 Caliphate Award, with the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Bamalli, being one of the honourees. This recognition is in acknowledgement of his efforts to promote and preserve relationships among families of key figures involved in the historic Tafkin Kwato, also known as the Muhajiruna Wal-Ansar War of the Sokoto Caliphate.
According to a statement released by Abdullahi Kwarbai, Media and Publicity Officer of the Zazzau Emirate Council, the Emir’s contributions have been instrumental in fostering unity and cooperation among these families. The statement, made available to the press in Zaria, highlights the significance of this award in appreciating the Emir’s role in preserving the history and heritage of the Sokoto Caliphate.
The Emir’s great-grandfather, Musa Bamalli, was a prominent participant in the war, and this legacy is seen as a testament to the Emir’s continued commitment to the values and principles of the Sokoto Caliphate. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 11, during the Annual General Meeting of Muhajiruna Wal-Ansar, where the Emir will be joined by six other Nigerian recipients.
In addition to receiving the award, the Emir is also set to chair the occasion, which will feature a keynote lecture by renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Isa Talatan Mafara.
