Cardi B cleared of assault allegations in 24 million lawsuit

A Los Angeles jury has cleared Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B of all assault allegations in a $24 million civil lawsuit. The decision, announced on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, followed a decisive ruling in favor of the rapper, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar Cephus.

The lawsuit was filed by Emani Ellis, a former security guard, who claimed that Cardi B attacked her outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office in 2018. According to Ellis, the rapper, who was pregnant at the time, scratched her face with her fingernails, spat on her, and used racial slurs. However, Cardi B denied the accusations, stating that the incident was strictly verbal and arose from her anger at being filmed without consent during a private medical appointment.

Witnesses, including a receptionist and a doctor present at the clinic, testified that they saw no physical assault. Their testimonies reinforced Cardi B’s defense, and after less than an hour of deliberation, the jury unanimously ruled in her favor, finding her not liable for any of the alleged actions.

The incident occurred in 2018, when Cardi B was pregnant with her first child. The case has been ongoing for several years, with both parties presenting their versions of events. Cardi B’s denial of the allegations has been consistent throughout the proceedings.

Outside the courthouse, Cardi B expressed relief at the verdict, stating that she would never admit to something she did not do. The ruling brings an end to the civil lawsuit, which had sought $24 million in damages. The decision is significant, as it reinforces the importance of evidence-based decision-making in civil cases. With this ruling, Cardi B can now focus on her career and personal life, without the burden of ongoing litigation. The case highlights the challenges of navigating high-profile disputes, where allegations can have serious consequences for those involved.
