Abdulmumin Jibrin, a Nigerian lawmaker representing the Kiru/Bebeji constituency, has hinted that he may leave the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). In a recent interview with DCL Hausa, he said his possible defection should not surprise anyone, emphasizing his ability to make independent decisions. Jibrin noted that the NNPP itself is open to negotiations with other parties, suggesting that party loyalty is not a constraint for him. He stressed his maturity and willingness to stand for what he believes is best for himself, while also affirming his respect for his political leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, even if they part ways.
Jibrin’s comments follow his contributions to the NNPP’s success in Kano State, where he claimed he never sought contracts despite his involvement. He acknowledged the support of the Kwankwasiyya movement—a political group linked to Kwankwaso—while highlighting his own commitment to the cause. When asked about possible destinations if he leaves the NNPP, Jibrin mentioned several options: returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). He stressed that nothing is impossible and that he will announce his decision when the time is right.
Jibrin’s potential defection could have significant implications for the NNPP and the political landscape in Kano State. As a prominent regional figure, his decision may influence the trajectory of other politicians and parties, making the development a focal point in Nigeria’s complex and dynamic party politics.
