The Ondo State Police Command has announced the recovery of stolen items valued at approximately N2.8 million and the arrest of six suspects in Akure. According to DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson, the breakthrough is part of ongoing efforts to detect and prevent crime in the state.
On 27 August 2025, Musa Abdullahi reported that unknown individuals had broken into his wife’s shop in the Osokoti area of Akure. The thieves took N300,000 in cash, a deep freezer with a stabiliser worth N500,000, foodstuffs, valuables, and seven 25‑litre jerrycans of vegetable oil, bringing the total estimated loss to N2.8 million.
During the investigation, police received information that Adegdule Segun, a resident of Osokoti Layout, had been apprehended by members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) with suspected stolen items. Unable to provide a satisfactory explanation, Segun was handed over to the police along with the exhibits.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of Dayo Lawson, a resident of Ondo Town. Lawson’s confessional statement yielded leads that enabled police to apprehend three suspected receivers: Murtala Kabiru, Damilola Oyateru, and Ijilusi Opeyemi. The investigation remains ongoing, with efforts focused on apprehending other suspects still at large.
The police command commended the swift response of its operatives and the vigilance of OPC members, acknowledging their contributions to maintaining safety in the state. It reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative efforts with security agencies, community groups, and non‑state actors to protect law‑abiding citizens and create an environment hostile to criminal activities. The success of this operation highlights the importance of cooperation between the police and other stakeholders in the security sector.
The command urges residents to remain vigilant, law‑abiding, and to provide credible information that can aid in preventing and combating crime throughout the state. By working together, the police aim to make Ondo State a safe and secure environment for all citizens.
