Reps member Kofa expelled from NNPP, accused of failing to pay party dues

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has clarified the circumstances surrounding the removal of Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa, a House of Representatives member for Kiru/Bebeji, from the party. According to Suleiman Hashimu Dungurawa, chairman of the NNPP’s Kano chapter, Kofa was sacked for allegedly seeking a job in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidency.

Dungurawa responded to allegations that the party had not given Kofa a fair chance to defend himself, arguing that the party’s actions were justified given Kofa’s public criticism of the NNPP and its presidential candidate, Kwankwaso. “How can you give a chance to someone who went to town attacking your party and showing his readiness to decamp?” he asked, explaining that decisive action was taken after learning Kofa was using the NNPP as a means to secure a position in Abuja. Dungurawa cited an interview in which Kofa attacked Kwankwaso and expressed his willingness to leave the party, concluding, “What are we waiting for?”

The NNPP’s decision has been supported by hundreds of Kwankwasiyya Movement supporters from Kiru, Kofa, and Bebeji, who paid a solidarity visit to Dungurawa and Sunusi Sirajo Madobi, the special advisor to Governor Yusuf on political matters. The visit demonstrated strong backing for the party’s actions and its commitment to upholding its values and principles.

Kofa’s removal highlights the NNPP’s effort to maintain discipline and cohesion among its members and underscores the intense political maneuvering and alliances that characterize Nigeria’s political landscape. As parties continue to navigate coalition‑building and power brokering, the NNPP’s action serves as a reminder of the importance of party loyalty and discipline in the pursuit of political goals.
