Tunisia becomes second team after Morocco to qualify for FIFA World Cup

Tunisia secured a place in next year’s World Cup in North America after a dramatic 1‑0 victory over Equatorial Guinea. Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane scored the decisive goal in the fourth minute of injury time, prompting wild celebrations among the visitors. The win, combined with their current record, puts Tunisia atop Group H with 22 points from eight games, a full 10 points ahead of second‑placed Namibia. This marks the seventh time Tunisia has qualified for the World Cup and their third consecutive appearance; in 2018 and 2022 they reached the group stage. Notably, Tunisia has not conceded a single goal in qualifying, underscoring their strong defensive performance.

In other Group H fixtures, Malawi staged a comeback against Liberia, drawing 2‑2 after trailing by two goals. Goals from Gabadinho Mhango and Chawanangwa Kaonga in the 72nd and 80th minutes secured the draw for Malawi. Mozambique reinforced its position with a 2‑0 win over Botswana.

Group G saw Algeria and Guinea play out a goalless draw, allowing Algeria to maintain its group lead with 19 points. Uganda kept pressure on with a 2‑0 victory over Somalia, tying Mozambique on 16 points. Madagascar delivered a convincing 3‑1 win against Chad, moving to 16 points and second in Group I behind Ghana. Ghana boosted its qualification hopes with a 1‑0 win over Mali in Accra.

Morocco, already qualified, continued its unbeaten run with a 2‑0 victory over Zambia, achieving its seventh win in seven matches. Guinea‑Bissau also recorded a 2‑0 win against Djibouti. In Group D, Libya defeated Eswatini 2‑0, moving to 14 points, two behind leader Cape Verde, which has a game in hand.

These results represent significant developments in the World Cup qualifying campaign, as teams position themselves for a spot in the global tournament. As qualifying progresses, competition is expected to intensify, with several nations still in contention. The upcoming matches will be crucial in determining the final lineup for the tournament in North America.
