Voter registration now compulsory in Kano  - Gov Yusuf

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the immediate reconstruction of the Yanshana Bridge in Kumbotso Local Government Area, which collapsed three days ago. The announcement followed a peaceful protest by Yanshana residents at the Government House, where they highlighted the disruption the bridge’s failure has caused to their daily activities and urged the governor’s intervention. Yusuf assured the protesters that the State Executive Council would formally endorse the bridge’s reconstruction at its meeting on Wednesday.

In addition to the bridge, the governor ordered the completion of an abandoned secondary‑school project in the Yanshana community, aiming to improve access to quality education for local children. He also instructed the Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government to allocate land for a new cemetery to serve Yanshana residents, addressing a critical infrastructure need for burial arrangements.

The reconstruction of the Yanshana Bridge and the finishing of the secondary‑school project are expected to positively impact daily life in the area, while the new cemetery will alleviate existing challenges related to burials. Governor Yusuf’s swift response demonstrates the Kano State government’s commitment to meeting citizens’ needs and providing essential infrastructure. The State Executive Council’s formal approval should expedite the bridge work, allowing residents to resume normal activities without further disruption. As the projects progress, the government will continue to monitor implementation to ensure the Yanshana community’s needs are fully met.
