Former South African cricket captain AB de Villiers revealed that he knew about Sourav Ganguly’s appointment as head coach of the Pretoria Capitals well before the official announcement. Speaking on his YouTube channel “AB de Villiers 360,” de Villiers said he had private discussions with Ganguly prior to the public disclosure, which came on August 24. He described the appointment as “fantastic” for the team and expressed hope that it would open doors for Indian players who are not under contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take part in the SA T20 tournament.
The Pretoria Capitals recently made a marquee signing at the SA T20 auction, acquiring Dewald Brevis for R16.5 million. Ganguly praised the acquisition, calling Brevis a “tremendous talent” with the potential to be a game‑changer in T20 cricket. Brevis had impressed on South Africa’s white‑ball tour of Australia, scoring 180 runs in three T20Is at a strike rate of 204.55.
De Villiers noted his disappointment that no Indian players featured in the final SA T20 auction and urged unattached Indian cricketers to consider playing in the tournament, arguing it would benefit the sport’s growth. The appointments of Ganguly as coach and the signing of Brevis are significant developments for the SA T20 league. As the competition expands, these moves could influence the Pretoria Capitals’ performance and reshape the tournament’s overall landscape, attracting greater global interest from cricket fans.
