Public schools will resume with improved facilities - Ogun commissioner assures

The Ogun State government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the education sector with plans to enhance infrastructure and policies for the 2025/2026 academic session. According to Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, public schools will reopen with upgraded facilities, including rehabilitated classrooms, laboratories and libraries equipped with modern equipment.

During a two‑day enrollment campaign in the Egba and Yewa regions, Arigbabu emphasized that the current administration places a high priority on education and highlighted the sector’s importance. He noted that significant efforts have been made to create a conducive learning environment, such as supplying furniture and implementing various development initiatives. The commissioner also urged parents of children with disabilities to enroll them in one of the state’s five special‑needs schools, assuring that adequate provisions are in place to ensure quality education.

The enrollment drive has reportedly yielded positive results, with more children now enrolled in public schools and benefiting from the state’s free education initiative. Olalekan Ifede, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, and Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry, reiterated that the free‑education policy prohibits any school from charging fees or levies.

Community leaders, including the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewa Land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and the Olu of Siun, Oba Lawrence Adeyinka, stressed that education is a vital legacy for children and urged parents to take advantage of the free‑education policy. The State Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association, Olusegun Folorunso, and other stakeholders praised the government’s efforts to transform the education sector, pledging continued support to ensure all children receive an education.

With the new academic session approaching, Ogun State’s initiatives aim to provide a better learning experience for students, underscoring the significance of education in shaping the state’s future.
