The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has received official recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its new leadership. INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu was praised by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, for supporting multi‑party democracy. According to INEC’s website, the approved executives are David Mark as National Chairman, Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, Ibrahim Ahmad as National Treasurer, and Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary. Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor has also been confirmed as the party’s new National Legal Adviser.
The new leadership took over after the ADC was adopted by an opposition coalition a few months ago, a move that was contested by a faction claiming to be the original owners. INEC’s recognition resolves the leadership dispute, and Abdullahi lauded the electoral body for “standing on the right side of history.” This acknowledgement is seen as a significant step in reinforcing Nigeria’s multi‑party democracy.
As one of the major opposition parties, the ADC’s new leadership is expected to play a crucial role in the country’s political landscape. The development has been welcomed by ADC members and democracy supporters across Nigeria. Abdullahi expressed appreciation for INEC’s decision, calling it a victory for democracy and the Nigerian people. With the dispute settled, the party can now focus on its political activities and preparations for future elections, continuing to promote democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
