Security challenges are best tackled at grassroots – Kebbi govt

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has stressed the importance of peaceful political participation, noting that Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) are the primary tool for citizens to exercise their democratic rights. Speaking at the commissioning of the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Augie Local Government Area, he urged residents to reject political thuggery and focus on registering to vote.

Governor Idris clarified a previously misinterpreted statement, explaining that the “war” he mentioned was a political one to be fought with PVCs. He emphasized that obtaining a PVC is essential for ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard in the democratic process and encouraged active participation in the ongoing voter‑registration exercise.

His comments come amid recent incidents of political violence in the state, which he denounced, asserting that his administration will not tolerate any form of violence. Kebbi State has traditionally been known for its peaceful and tranquil political environment, and Governor Idris is determined to preserve that reputation. He appealed to citizens to prioritize their democratic rights and engage in the electoral process through lawful means.

The governor’s call for peaceful participation is significant as the voter‑registration drive aims to boost turnout and guarantee that all eligible citizens can take part in the upcoming elections. By highlighting the importance of PVCs and rejecting political violence, Governor Idris promotes a message of peace and civic engagement. As the electoral process unfolds, it remains to be seen how effectively this message will be received and whether it will contribute to a peaceful and successful election in Kebbi State.
