Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has broken ground on the BIPC Eco-City Estate, a housing development situated at the former BBL Quarters in Makurdi. The governor, speaking through his deputy, Barr. Sam Ode, reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing affordable housing to residents across the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort to transform Makurdi into a world-class urban center, with a focus on improving road infrastructure to connect the new estate.
The BIPC Eco-City Estate is expected to feature 70 duplexes in its first two phases, with a third phase targeting low-income earners. According to Dr. Raymond Asemakaha-CFA, Group Managing Director of the Benue Investment and Property Company, the project aims to reduce living expenses in Makurdi and make decent homes more accessible. To achieve this, the company has also acquired 30 hectares of land along Gboko Road for a low-income housing estate.
The state government is collaborating with the Federal Mortgage Bank to deliver affordable homes to civil servants. Secretary to the State Government, Dcns Deborah Aber, commended the Benue Investment and Property Company for its reforms in the real estate sector. The BIPC Eco-City Estate is designed with modern smart facilities and will comprise four-bedroom detached houses, according to Lucy Jato, General Manager of Real Estate and Infrastructure.
The development of the BIPC Eco-City Estate is a significant step towards addressing the housing needs of residents in Benue State.
